Welcome to Season 21
There’s always something exciting about opening the gates to the jungle after a long, rainy summer.
On October 27, the Tailwind Jungle Lodge will officially reopen for our 21st season in San Pancho, Mexico.
For the past several months, the lodge has been closed while the summer rains worked their magic. The jungle has grown wild, green, and wonderfully alive. We spend our summers in the lakes and mountains of the north and now our Jungle Family is migrating south once again. Our team is excited to be coming back together to embrace the annual adventure of waking up our ecolodge in Mexico.
And trust us…it takes a little more than turning a key and fluffing a few pillows.

What Does It Take to Reopen an Ecolodge in Mexico?
After months of tropical rain, Mother Nature has been busy. Our October to-do list looks something like this:
✓ Sharpen the machete.
✓ Find the trails. Yes, they were there when we left.
✓ Cut back approximately four million vines.
✓ Figure out why the tiles turned green. Again.
✓ Scrub those stubborn green tiles.
✓ Repair the stairs Mother Nature decided to rearrange.
✓ Sand, seal, love, and generally sweet-talk lots of wood.
✓ Inspect every palapa from top to bottom — and see who moved in while we were gone.
✓ Convince the pool that summer vacation is over.
✓ Plant, prune, sweep, scrub, repair, paint…
✓ Stock the fridge with limonadas and cold cervezas. Reopening is thirsty work.
✓ Hang the hammocks.
✓ Test the hammocks. Strictly for quality control.
✓ Open the gates for Season 21!
We’ve learned over the years that you have to find the fun in the process. Reopening can be brutal work — hot days, tired muscles, and an endless amount of chopping, scrubbing, hauling, sanding, and fixing.
But give us a positive crew, some upbeat tunes (mariachi, anyone?), and a fridge full of limonadas and cold cervezas, and there are bound to be plenty of giggles mixed in with the sweat.
Bonus: jungle-lodge reopening is an excellent workout. Who needs a gym? Our stairs keep us healthy and strong.

Twenty-One Seasons of Jungle Life
Tailwind Jungle Lodge is a small, family-run ecolodge tucked into the coastal jungle just north of San Pancho on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit.
We first fell in love with this land more than twenty years ago. Since then, Tailwind has grown into a collection of open-air palapas and casitas woven into the jungle, connected by trails and surrounded by tropical forest, birdsong, butterflies, and the wild Pacific coast.
Living here has taught us that caring for a place is never really finished. Things grow. Wood weathers. Trails disappear. The rains arrive. Mother Nature always gets the final word.
Every October, we don’t so much tame the jungle as find our place within it again.
Little by little, the trails reappear, the palapas start to shine, the hammocks go back up, and the lodge begins to feel like home.
Why We Love November at Our Eco-lodge in Mexico
Reopening at the end of October means we get to experience one of our favorite times of year in San Pancho: November.
The summer rains leave the jungle spectacularly green. The Pacific is deliciously warm. The humidity begins to drop, and sunny days return. San Pancho is waking up too. Restaurants reopen, the farmers market returns, friends reconnect, and the community feels rested and recharged after the slower summer months.
And yet, it’s still muy tranquilo. The holiday crowds haven’t arrived. Surf breaks are less crowded. Beaches feel wonderfully spacious. Life moves at a mañana pace. It’s a little window of the year that locals know and love.

Come Find Us in the Jungle
On October 27, we’ll open our wooden entrance doors once again.
The trails will be cleared. The palapas will keep the rain out. The hammocks will have been thoroughly quality tested. And after a summer of rain, growth, repairs, and anticipation, we’ll be ready to welcome you back to our little corner of the Mexican Pacific.
Here’s to Season 21. We look forward to meeting you at our ecolodge in Mexico!
¡Nos vemos en la selva!
