Sarinbuana Eco Lodge is a nature-based retreat set in the remote mountains of Bali, created as a private getaway in 1990 and shaped over the years into a small eco lodge rooted in community and simple, low-impact living. Set in Tabanan, it offers a peaceful base in Bali’s central highlands — around 1.5 hours from Canggu and Ubud — for travelers who want cooler mountain air, expansive views, and a deeper connection to rainforest landscapes. The lodge is known for guided rainforest trekking in a setting that feels quiet and uncrowded, with a warm local team and a strong garden-to-table approach.

What the Stay Feels Like

The atmosphere at Sarinbuana Eco Lodge is calm, grounding, and deeply nature-immersed. Accommodation is spread across six unique and individually designed bungalows, each positioned for privacy and views. Days often begin with fresh mountain air and the sounds of the surrounding landscape, then unfold at an unhurried pace — with space to read, rest, and simply be outside.
Time here can be as active or as still as you need. There are guided treks through rainforest and rice paddies, and there are also slow moments that become the highlight: a swim in the all-natural pool (no chemicals), a soak in mountain-fed river pools, or an evening settling into the quiet after a day outdoors. The overall feeling is restorative and real — a place where comfort comes from simplicity, fresh air, and the sense of being held by nature.

Community & Local Connection

Sarinbuana’s story is closely tied to the surrounding villages. The lodge employs team members from local villages only, building capacity where experience is not available, and many team members have been with the lodge for over 14 years. Guest activities are designed to support local livelihoods through local employment for low-impact experiences such as trekking, walks, mountain biking, massage, and workshops. Sarinbuana Eco Lodge also offers 12+ guided workshops with local community members, creating a hands-on way to connect with Balinese culture and everyday village life.
Community support is woven into long-term projects and learning opportunities in the surrounding villages. The lodge also supports a weekly English class for young children in the village, launched just over a year ago.
The lodge also runs an active traditional Balinese dance class every week, with 20+ young students, creating an ongoing way for local culture to be practiced, shared, and supported.

Good to Know Before You Book

Best Time to Visit: The lodge is a year-round nature retreat, but if Mount Batukaru trekking is part of your plans, April – November is the recommended period for climbing the mountain

Getting there: Sarinbuana Eco Lodge is approximately 1.5 hours from Canggu, Kuta, Seminyak, and Ubud, and around 2 hours from Denpasar Airport, depending on traffic. Gojek and Grab can bring you to the lodge, but they are not available for departures because of the lodge’s remote location

Stay vibe: A peaceful, nature-immersive retreat at around 700m on the slopes of Mount Batukaru, surrounded by tropical rainforest, permaculture gardens, rice paddies, and mountain landscapes. The experience is intentionally close to nature, with individually designed bungalows and a slower, more restorative pace

Sustainability tip: Choose locally sourced meals and experiences, minimize waste, conserve water, and respect the rainforest and wildlife surrounding the lodge. The property’s sustainability approach includes permaculture, organic gardening, composting, recycling, natural cleaning practices, and environmental conservation

Family-friendly: Families and children are welcome, with dedicated family accommodation, children’s activities, games, books, a kids’ menu, and child-minding available by arrangement. The lodge also offers a family nature package including guided walks, a permaculture garden tour, treetop yoga, natural pools, and other nature-based experiences

Mobility: The lodge is set in a natural mountain environment with uneven terrain, pathways, and stairs. Some accommodation is not suitable for guests with limited mobility — for example, the Rumah Manis bungalow has many stairs and is specifically noted by the lodge as unsuitable for guests with disabilities. Check with the team before booking if accessibility is important to your stay

What to pack: Comfortable walking shoes, lightweight clothing, swimwear, sun protection, insect repellent, and a reusable water bottle. If you plan to trek Mount Batukaru, bring good hiking shoes, at least 2 litres of water per person, snacks, a rain jacket, and a charged phone with a torch

Nature highlight: Beyond the lodge’s chemical-free natural swimming pool, guests can discover three private natural river pools surrounded by the snake fruit grove and organic rice paddies, as well as waterfalls and mountain landscapes.
The lodge has recorded more than 130 bird species in its grounds and surrounding area, with guided morning birdwatching walks starting at sunrise

Retreat Groups: Sarinbuana Eco Lodge can be booked exclusively for group retreats and gatherings, accommodating approximately 10 – 16 guests across six private bungalows. The lodge has hosted yoga and healing retreats, educational groups, family gatherings, birdwatching groups, permaculture courses, team-building activities, and creative workshops. Its treetop bamboo retreat space is designed for yoga, movement, healing work, and group sessions
